Why beginners start with private Pilates
Most people who start Pilates at True Form have the same worries: trying something new in front of experienced adults, not being able to keep up, or carrying an old injury they don’t want to explain to a room. Some have walked past studios that felt like they weren’t built for them.
A private session removes all of that. There’s no class to follow and no back row. Carly watches how you move, explains what each exercise is for, and adjusts it while you’re doing it. You learn correct form from the first session instead of copying the person on the next machine.
True Form is deliberately not a “boutique” studio. Men, women, people who haven’t exercised in years and people who train hard are all welcome. The minimum age is 15.
What to expect at your first Pilates session
To book online, choose a time, create or sign into an Arketa profile, buy your session, and fill out a short health questionnaire. Online booking closes two hours before each appointment. You can also call or text 734-366-0337 to book; payment by credit card, Venmo or cash can be made in advance or when you arrive.
- Welcome. Shoes stay at the door. Carly introduces herself and the equipment, and explains that you may use some or all of it, depending on what you need.
- Health history. She asks about surgeries, conditions and anything that’s bothered you. Recent surgery or recent postpartum status needs medical clearance before you book.
- Simple movements. She uses a few basic exercises to see your strength, mobility, movement patterns and how you respond to spoken cues.
- Your workout. She builds the session from what she saw, and changes it as you go.
- Debrief. Afterward she asks how it felt, tells you the strengths she noticed and what future sessions would focus on, and talks through a realistic weekly or monthly rhythm if you want to continue.
What beginner Pilates feels like
Pilates looks gentle from the outside. It isn’t easy. Beginners usually leave feeling that they had a real workout and feel stronger, without being completely wiped out. Some muscle soreness over the next day or two is common when the work is new; our article on soreness after Pilates explains why.
Equipment used in beginner Pilates sessions
The studio has the full classical apparatus: reformers, tower, Cadillac, Wunda chair, ladder barrel, spine correctors, small barrels and mats. A session may use some or all of it. Carly picks what suits your body and the goal of the day. Read more about how neo-classical Pilates works here.
What to wear to your first Pilates session
- Comfortable clothes you can move in. Skip zippers and snaps, which can damage the equipment’s leather.
- Bare feet or clean grip socks. Ordinary socks aren’t allowed.
- Anything Carly should know about your health, injuries or surgeries.

Private Pilates intro prices
First-time clients can try True Form for less before choosing a package. You can buy one option or both.
| Intro option | Price |
|---|---|
| 1 private session (55 min) | $75 |
| 3 private sessions (3 x 55 min) | $195 |
Each intro purchase expires one month after purchase and can’t be shared or transferred. The three-session option gives Carly room to assess, adjust and build early progress, rather than judging from a single visit. After that, a regular private session is $95, and packs bring the per-session price down. See full pricing or how the intro offer works.
Want to bring a friend instead? Two or three people who book together can train as a duet or trio.
“I started as someone who had never gone to the gym and became someone always ready to lift a little heavier and push a little harder.”

Beginner Pilates FAQs
Do I need to get fit before I start?
No. You don't need to get fit first. Private sessions remove the pressure of keeping up with a room, and Carly starts with the body you bring.
Will it be enough of a workout?
True Form is strength-focused. Clients commonly finish knowing they worked while still feeling capable rather than completely spent.
Can I buy both intro options?
Yes. First-time clients can buy the single $75 session, the three-session $195 option, or both. Each expires one month after purchase and can't be shared or transferred.
Is True Form only for women?
No. The studio is deliberately not gender-coded, and everyone 15 and older is welcome.
