Contact Carly before booking Pilates with sciatica
Every body and every case is different, and a web page can’t tell which describes you. Before you buy a session, a short call, text or email lets Carly understand your situation and tell you honestly whether to start now, start privately, or check with a clinician first.
Call or text 734-366-0337, email carly@trueformpilates.com, or use the contact form.
What to ask your clinician before Pilates
If a doctor or physical therapist is involved in your care, these questions can help you bring useful information to your first session:
- Is exercise appropriate for me right now?
- Are there movements or positions I should avoid, and for how long?
- Are there symptoms that mean I should stop and contact you?
- Would it help if my Pilates instructor spoke with you?
Get emergency care right away, rather than booking or waiting, if you have sciatica-type pain along with any of these: new problems controlling your bladder or bowels, numbness around your groin or bottom, or weakness or numbness in both legs that is severe or getting worse. These warning signs come from the NHS guidance on sciatica.
What to expect if you book a Pilates session
You’ll complete a brief health questionnaire before your first session. In the session, Carly starts with your health history, including surgeries and conditions, then uses simple movements to see how you respond before building anything. With your permission, she can contact your physical therapist if she needs clarification.
Sessions adjust to what your body needs that day. If something doesn’t feel right, tell her immediately. If you can’t do a suggested movement comfortably, she may recommend private sessions only, or returning to your physical therapist before continuing.
Pilates does not diagnose or treat sciatica
Pilates at True Form doesn’t diagnose or treat sciatica, and it doesn’t replace care from your doctor or physical therapist. This page makes no claim about what Pilates will do for sciatica. It explains how the studio handles your first contact and first session.
For general back pain, see private Pilates with back pain. If you’re finishing a course of PT, see Pilates after physical therapy.
Private Pilates intro prices
If Carly agrees it’s a good time to start, first-time clients can buy one private 55-minute session for $75, three for $195, or both. Each intro purchase expires one month after purchase and can’t be shared or transferred. See full pricing.
Pilates and sciatica FAQs
Can Pilates help with sciatica?
This page won't guess, because it depends on your situation. Ask your doctor or physical therapist whether exercise is appropriate for you now, and contact Carly so she can ask about it directly.
Should I wait until the pain settles?
That's a question for your doctor or physical therapist, not a Pilates instructor.
Do I need clearance?
Medical clearance is required after recent surgery. For anything else you're unsure about, check with your clinician and contact Carly before booking.
