Medical clearance before Pilates after joint replacement
True Form requires medical clearance after recent surgery. Your surgeon or physical therapist decides when you’re ready to return to exercise and what you should avoid. Carly works within that.
That matches what orthopedic surgeons tell patients. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ knee replacement exercise guide describes exercises done under the direction of a physical therapist or surgeon and says to check with them before starting. Its guidance on activities after hip replacement explains that restrictions are individual and come from your surgeon. A Pilates studio shouldn’t be the one deciding those things.
What to bring before booking Pilates
- Clearance from your surgeon or physical therapist to start this kind of exercise.
- Any restrictions you’ve been given: movements, positions or loads to avoid, and for how long.
- The name of your physical therapist, if you’d like Carly to be able to contact them.
Then contact Carly with those details before you buy a session. She’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a good time to start.
How Pilates sessions adapt to your restrictions
Programming is case-specific: which joint, how long ago the surgery was, and your current restrictions. With your permission, Carly can talk with your physical therapist if she needs clarification. In the first session she reviews your history, uses simple movements to see how you move and respond, and builds the workout from there.
If you can’t do a suggested movement appropriately, she may recommend returning to physical therapy or keeping to private sessions. Start private; a duet or trio can come later if it suits you.
Pilates instruction and post-surgical rehabilitation
Pilates instruction isn’t physical therapy or post-surgical rehabilitation. It doesn’t set your recovery timeline, and this page makes no claim about recovery outcomes. What Carly offers here is Pilates instruction: 19 years of teaching movement, 13 years of teaching Pilates, and full attention on how your body responds.
If you’re still in or just finishing rehab, read Pilates after physical therapy.
Private Pilates intro prices
Once you’re cleared, first-time clients can buy one private 55-minute session for $75, three for $195, or both. Each intro purchase expires one month after purchase and can’t be shared or transferred. Package expiration can be extended for medical reasons case by case; contact Carly if that comes up. See full pricing.
Pilates after joint replacement FAQs
How soon after surgery can I start?
That depends on your surgeon's or physical therapist's clearance, not on a Pilates studio. Contact Carly with your clearance details before booking.
Will Carly coordinate with my PT?
Only with your permission, and only to clarify your restrictions.
Is this rehabilitation?
No. Pilates instruction isn't physical therapy or post-surgical rehabilitation, and it doesn't set your recovery timeline.
